Guidelines and FAQs
Considerations for the storyboard/slides
- There are power point presentation templates in seafile: \Seafile\MOOCs\PPT templates or click here, which you should use where appropriate.
- When making the slides consider at which points you want the speaker to be visible and adjust the content of the slide appropriately. For example, if you have a complex diagram it may be better for the speaker to be invisible to avid attentional divide.
Do we need a script?
- Yes, the script is absolutely necessary!
Pleas mark the points at which you want the background to change in any way (e.g. highlight the last word before the change). Where appropriate indicate what this change should be.
The script will also be used as subtitles so this needs to be a verbatim transcript of what you say.
What should you use to film?
- Please use the camera you were provided with by the project. Yes, it has a fish-eye effect, but this distortion will be removed in post-production.

- When filming also consider how much of yourself you would like to be visible, i.e where you want to be cut off. If you crop the film to closely, you will not be able to see your hands. If you crop at waist height you will need to ensure that your hands are always lifted (otherwise your hands will be cut off which will look strange or appear and disappear as you move them). It is better to choose a frame that is too wide rather than too small, as we can always crop more out but cannot add more of you in.
More filming advice - The camera works by itself. You do not need to connect it your laptop. The USB is for charging and transferring content onto your laptop/computer.
Where should you film?
- Most projects should have access to a green screen (please contact Jessica Nieder Jessica.nieder@uni-hiedelberg.de to find out more about this) in front of which you should record your sessions. Make sure the lighting is equal and there is no shadow to one side of you.

What should you wear?
- Ideally something neutral and not too distracting or heavily patterned. Most importantly do not wear green! Ideally don’t wear white as this may blend with your background if this is white.
How do you get the video to us?
- Windows: Connect the camera to your laptop/computer when turned off. The camera will turn on automatically and display a menu. Select _. Save the video to Seafile and share the file with Jessica Nieder (jessica.nieder@uni-hiedelber.de) or Nikias Herzhauser (nikias.herzhauser@uni-heidelberg.de)
- Mac: You will have to download an android filetransfer app: https://www.android.com/filetransfer
If you have any other questions, please ask and if you would like (remote) assistance with your recoding this can be arranged.
